Hello fellow Sufferlandrians, and welcome to the Sufferfest iOS (iPad/iPhone)App. Not only do you want to suffer, but you want to suffer better and maybe a little more precisely. This article will discuss the following:
- iOS Device Compatibility
- Sensor Connections
- Signing Up and Signing In
- Setting Your Sufferlandrian Preferences
- Basic Sufferfest App Functionality
iOS Device Compatibility
We recommend you have at least an iPhone 4S, iPad 3rd generation or iPod Touch 5th generation. We also recommend installing the most up-to-date version of iOS software, or running iOS 9.x at a minimum.
You will need a Bluetooth 4.0 connection in order to utilize your Bluetooth Enabled (BLTE) devices. Also, you will need an ANT + key and possibly adapter to use your ANT + Sensors. For more information please go to the iOS Device Compatability, Bluetooth, and ANT + adapters article.
Signing In and Signing Up
Okay, let's get started. The first thing you will need to do is create an account on our website here: https://thesufferfest.com/pages/app
Once you have created your username and password, we can now long into The Sufferfest App with the Log in prompt. If you have forgotten your password, you can just select the Forgot Your Password link to receive an email.
Once log in is complete, you can now access all the videos that Sufferfest has to offer. Sit back and bask in the opportunity to Suffer to a whole new level!
We have four main tabs at the bottom of the Sufferfest App. These are the primary tabs that you will be using to guide yourself through the App.
The "VIDEOS" tab allows us to access all of the fine videos that Sufferlandria has to offer. The "PASSPORT" tab is where all of your user data will be displayed, to include your history of suffering. The "SETTINGS" tab is where all of your very important user settings are located. The "INFO" tab is where we can learn more about the Sufferfest App and contact the minions at Sufferlandrian Services. You can also email TheMinions@TheSufferfest.com for help at anytime. Okay, let's get started by going into the SETTINGS tab.
Setting Your Sufferlandrian Preferences
At the top of our settings tab, we will input our units to measure or Suffering (Imperial or Metric), our Wheel size, Gender, Weight, current FTP, and current Lactate Threshold Heart Rate (LTHR). To better understand what your FTP is, please visit our blog about the video Rubber Glove and the FTP Test.
Now that all of your settings are in place, we can suffer more precisely in our workout videos. The next part to settings is connecting our external accounts. We want to share our suffering in order to shame the couchlandrians into submission. There are three places we can currently share our workouts, Strava, TrainingPeaks, and email. When you finish your workout, a .tcx file will be sent to you for your own personal use. This is helpful for users who are utilizing training programs like Golden Cheetah.
Downloading For Offline Use
Another great feature at the end of the settings page is the ability to manage your device storage. You can see how much storage is left on your device and how much space you are taking up with Glorious Sufferfest videos. To free up space, you simply click on the DELETE link and you have freed up some device memory.
Basic Sufferfest App Functionality
The next area we can look at is the Sufferlandrian Passport. (Stay tuned for some great features that will be coming to the Passport in the future!) The passport display your personal settings and tracks your history of suffering. All videos that you have completed will be listed in your passport.
When you click on your previous workout, you will get a summary of workout data. Below is an example of workout data that will be displayed on your iOS device.
There are two options at the top of your workout data file. You can "DISCARD" your workout if there were too many couchlandrain tendencies, or the couchlandrians were trying to prevent you from working out. You can also "Share" your workout if the App forget to automatically upload the data the first time. Everything in your workout is displayed, even your 5 second to 30 minute power bests.
Next up is the most important part of the Sufferfest App, the videos tab. The video section contains all of the Sufferlandrian videos you could ever want to do. You could suffer until your heart is content or maybe even try out Sufferlandrian Knighthood!
You have three options to sort videos at the top. The videos can be sorted by Sport (Cycling or Running), Style (Base, Climbing, Endurance, Running Hills, Mashups, Racing, Speed, Style, and Time Trail), and Time in minutes (0-30, 30-60, 60-90, and 90+ minutes).
Now that we understand how to navigate the App, let's dive right in to selecting our video and setting our sensors up.
If you still have any questions, feel free to email TheMinions@TheSufferfest.com for further information.
