It is not uncommon for a Sufferlandrian to start a training plan with a set FTP and then begin crushing workouts about 5 weeks into this training plan. We will talk about the need to retest your FTP during your 10 week training plan. This won't apply to everyone who starts a training plan. However, it is a likely scenario for anyone who is just getting back to training. An individual who is just getting back to training may discover significant gains half way through a Sufferfest Training Plan. Let us look at the key indicators to do Rubber Glove again to set a new FTP.
1. Workouts seems easier than when you started.
Do you feel like the workouts are getting much easier? Are you not even struggling anymore on the harder videos? This is a clear indication you need to do Rubber Glove again. Find a workout in your training plan within the upcoming week that requires a heavy workload, then replace it with the video Rubber Glove.
2. Intensity Factor (IF) consistently above target IF or IF above 1.01.
You can find out more information about Intensity Factor in our article "What The Heck is FTP, TSS, IF, and LTHR?" You can find the IF for each of our workouts in the video menu list. Check your completed workout in your passport. Are you starting to overachieve IF on workouts now by .3 to .6 IF? It might be time to retest your FTP. It's okay if you have one great day, but consistently hitting IF numbers above the videos IF rating, means it is time to test again.
The IF can be found underneath the video profile. Check it against your passport.
3. Rubber Glove is soooo hard, do I really need to test again?
No, you don't have to test again if you know you are 5% stronger than when you started. Just adjust your workout up 5% in the workout setup screen and it is equivalent to adjusting your FTP. Or, raise your FTP by 5% in the setting page and accept that you are permanently stronger.
4. I have other questions I need to ask. Where do I go?
We have a forum that is dedicated to discussing Sufferlandrian training. You can direct yourself there and talk with other Sufferlandrians that may be doing the same things. (Link to Training Forum)
